Dr. Govindan Thirumavalavan was born in 1940 at Thiruvathipuram (Cheyyar), a historical town in Tiruvannamalai district, Tamil Nadu.
He got his MA degree in History from the University of Madras in 1977 and MA degree in Public Administration from the Utkal University (Odisha) in 1969.
He received a PhD degree in History from the University of Madras in 1987 for his research on the “Political, Social and Cultural History of the Cholas, as Gleaned from ‘Ula’ Literature”.
He served as Reader and Professor of History in the Tamil Nadu Collegiate Education Services for more than 40 years. He is a versatile writer, both in English and Tamil. His short stories and articles have been published in reputed magazines and national newspapers.
He is the author of two Tamil books – “Sambuvaraiyar” and “Pulavarin Vazhvum Paniyum”. He published his PhD thesis, Political, Social and Cultural History of the Cholas, as Gleaned from “Ula” Literature, in 1991.
